Cabana’s Best of Brasil – The Perfect Caipirinha
The Caipirinha, which means ‘little country girl’ in Portuguese, is Brasil’s national cocktail. At Cabana you can try loads of different versions of this versatile drink. From fruity takes on the classic such as our Passionfruit Caipirinha, to the UK’s FIRST Frozen Caipirinha, and our personal fave, the Popsicle Caipirinha – the classic cocktails with served with a flavoured ice lolly, talk about double whammy! But right now we’re going back to basics and showing you our classic Caipirinha recipe. You can use ordinary white granulated sugar, but we like the slightly caramelised flavour of golden caster sugar:
1 ½ limes, skin on, cut into rough cubed
1 tbsp golden caster sugar
65ml cachaça (we like Velho Barreiro)
Handful of cracked ice (put ice into a small plastic bag and bash it with a rolling pin)
Put the limes and sugar in a sturdy glass tumblr. Muddle them with a cocktail muddler or the end of a small rolling pin to extract the juice from the lime and dissolve the sugar. Add the cachaça and cracked ice and give it a stir. Finally, top the glass with more cracked ice and add a wooden lollipop stick for stirring. Serve immediately.
